We are trying to export an XML from 6.0.1 to 5.1.4 and are getting “XML Translation was aborted due to a critical error” We attempted all four Interchange Formats. Our sequence does not have any 3rd party filters applied. Generally a basic rough cut sequence. Any suggestions? Thanks.

V4 won’t work at all, so abandon that. What format are you exporting to?

Try XML version 2 or 3 … not version 4

    😉

We tried Interchange Formats 1 through 3.

Sorry, I meant to say, what codec is your sequence in FCP6? Where/how are you exporting from (just the timeline, from a bin, etc.)? Are you doing the whole project? One timeline?

    HDV 1080i.60, complete project.

    We attempted using both 2 & 3.

Make sure that absolutely nothing is selected in your browser. Deselect all if you have to.

Then with your browser selected, simply go to Export > XML and choose v3 and tick the little box on the bottom which says something like “Save project with metadata…” or whatever it says.

I just checked with the person who is attempting to export this for me. There is nothing selected and we used v3. He also used media manager to eliminate non-essential media. I’m crossing my fingers there you have another idea.

    It should work. Really.

What else is in your project that could be tripping it up?

How did he use Media Manager to eliminate non essential media? Would that mean just a timeline? If you need just a timeline, use the create offline feature.

We ended up being able to move the project (50 minutes) in pieces after removing everything right down to the audio level adjustments. We were unable to move the final 5 minutes. No idea why. Whew! A perfect task for a Monday.
