I need some quick help. I have a potential client who has a LOT of footage in XMF format (I don’t know yet if it’s Sony or Panasonic) I need to bring it into Final Cut so I am do some minor edits and then output the segments.

There is a LOT of info out there on how to get it into Final Cut. Do I absolutely need a plug in to do this? Can anyone suggest a simple (free if possible) solution to do this. A sony suggestion and a panasonic suggestion would be very helpful. Is it realistic that I can get something free?

    Thanks!!

First find out what camera was used…then we can tell you what to do. If it is P2, then it is very easy. FCP does this via Log and Transfer. Here’s a tutorial on that:

    P2 Workflow with FCP 6

This is for FCP 6, but it works for FCP 7 too.

If it is Sony…XDCAM? Then you use the free XDCAM TRANSFER software. That converts it to XDCAM with a QT wrapper that makes it editable in FCP. I don’t have a tutorial for that…but the transfer software will have a manual.
