  • XLR input Audio Issue on HC-X1 – anyone notice this?

    Hi all,

Had our HC-X1 for a few months and thought I had some audio settings wrong (for XLR mic input) because there was always an annoying “white noise” type of sound during recordings with our Sony ECM-44B Lav mic.

On our old HPX-500 P2 camera I could hook up the mic and what I’d hear in the headphones would be super clean – nothing but the mic.

But I plug it into the HC-X1 and I can hear the mic OK, but also a low white noise – kinda like when you turn up the levels too high.

I have even compared it to our GH4 dslr and that one’s a lot cleaner.

    Anyone experiencing this?

I did mess with the few audio settings it does have to no avail (input level -40,-50,-60, as well as lo cut and ALC.)

My next test is to try the line input with a mic going thru a pre-amp or mixer. I would imagine that would be cleaner but I hate to add outboard equipment when it already has XLR mic inputs!

Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
