XH-A1 Playback std
Posted by Samu Ainesmaa on February 9, 2009 at 9:52 amI’m trying to figure out how to get FCP to detect my XH-A1. Everywhere everyone seems to be going on about setting the playback std option to HDV. The problem is that when I connect a firewire cable the option becomes grayed out and I cannot set it when connected to my mac.
What to do?

February 9, 2009 at 2:44 pmSome firewire options are disabled and grayed out if a firewire cable is already connected to the camera.
Try this…
Turn the camera off. Remove the cable. Turn the camera on, go into the menu, and make the changes you need… they should be enabled now. Turn the camera back off. Reconnect the cable. Then turn the camera back on.
Then you should be good to go. Hope that works.

February 9, 2009 at 3:53 pmI have had the same problem with the XH-A1. This camera has a physical lock function near the record button it needs to be switched to unlock or else you will not be able to output HD and the option will remain grayed out. Then you can follow the previous instructions if it doesn’t automatically work. Oh and make sure it is not downconverting to SD.
Hope this helps.

February 11, 2009 at 9:21 pmHmmm I’ve tried everything I can think of and it’s still not working. I’ve settled for importing with Premiere and editing in FC :<

February 17, 2009 at 12:25 amI have an XH A1 and use FCP and have had the same issue. WHat works for me is turning the camera off, but leaving it plugged in to the computer. Quit final cut. Turn the camera on, then start final cut. When you go to capture it should recognize it. THat works every time for me.
Make sure your on the playback (VCR) mode on the camera, and not down converting to standard def.
Hope that helps.

July 22, 2013 at 5:06 amKnow this is an old post but i’m having a similar problem and wondering if you might have some insight. Trying to capture footage in FCP7 from the XH-A1. I got it to play on the camera but when i try to get it on FCP it just keeps saying “Preview Disabled”.
