Xena LH and Adobe Premiere
Posted by Shane Chadder on December 13, 2005 at 10:48 pmHi
We are currently using Black Magic products but I need another card and I’m interested in the new Xena cards.
Can someone tell me what the limitations on using Xena LH and Premiere without the Cineform Prospect codec are? Can the Xena work in Premiere without Cineform? Can it work with HDV?
Sorry but the codec is 2x the cost of the card so I don’t want to buy it unless it is really needed.
Thanks

December 13, 2005 at 11:25 pmHi-
It is actually our XENA HS card that works with Cineform’s Prospect HD, and Premiere. The XENA LH is for motion graphics work, as it comes with powerful plug-ins for After Effects, Combustion, Fusion, etc. (no Premiere).
The Cineform/Xena HS solution offers amazing realtime online HD performance within Premiere, using Cineform excellent online compressed codec. More information can be found at Cineform’s site:

Yes, that’s correct, without Prospect HD there is currently no Premiere support.

December 27, 2005 at 1:33 pmThe Xena HS is an OEM card only. AJA has no interest in supporting PC Editing apps. I have talked with them multiple times, and they only provide drivers for the card. They expect third party companies like cineform to write interfaces to premiere. In fact in their latest card offerings cineform can not use these cards becaus aja left out support in the drivers.
Bottom line is if you want to use a PC you are stuck with decklink.
I currently am stuck with an aja card I can not use because the Third party went belly up, and I no longer have PC support with out starting over again with cineform.

I stand corrected Cineform does support the LH card. My original info was from AJA, but I see from cineforms web site that they do now support the LH card and LHe is pending.

January 18, 2006 at 3:05 pmFortunately this is no longer true. AJA is releasing the Xena HS into the general marketplace, and it is recommended by Adobe for use with the new version of Premiere Pro, version 2.0. We will be carrying it, and building TSUNAMI workstations around this solution. AJA is very enthusiastic about their movement into the PC market and their partnership with Adobe, and we’re very glad that a company as reputable as AJA is offering a card for PPro.
