    hi all,

    either i’m too stupid or…

    my problem:
if i put a 50fps xdcamex clip into a 25fps sequence, fcp throws away every second frame..
it doesn’t play slowmo, and even speeding down to 50% without Frame blending doesn’t do the trick (to me fcp should play back the files at 200% by default, and not saying 100%
    and dropping every 2nd frame….)

i can’t interpret the footage from 50 to 25fps (as in AE)

    well,

    what do i do wrong??????

    thanx

    Stefan

    you’re serious?

i need an extra program to set playback frame rate of the clip??
    this can’t be true, can’t be, can’t be……

    ITS SUCH A SIMPLE TASK!!

    well,
i know it comes bundled but i have never used it.
i just don’t understand why this doesn’t work inside FCP….
maybe someone writes a script just like it was done for
converting HDV 1080i into SD progressive at half speed..

    yep, but start stottering…

the only way it works is in a 50fps sequence set to 50%speed..

that’s kind or weird, isn’t it???

i’d expect that a file with 50fps put into a sequence of 25fps does either:

play back at half speed (25fps)
    or
is set to a speed of 200%

    but NEVEr NEVER NEVER

plays back at normal speed, set to 100%, and losing every 2nd frame not recoverable!

that’s a fault in their train of thought!!

    just my thaoughts 😉

    cheers

    Hi Stefan,
I think FC is behaving properly. 25 fps and 50 fps are different time bases, and this information is embed in the file.
If you put your clip in a 25p sequence (100% speed) FC need to throw away the half of the pictures because you have the double than the necessary. There is not room for “frame blending” here. What do you want to blend? Two progressive frames to make a new progressive frame? If so, your final movie would not have a single pixel from the original film. When you use Frame blending, FC creates in-between pictures, but keeps all the original. The more the number of pictures created by the application, the worst will look your movie.
If you put your clip in a 50p sequence at 50% speed and WITHOUT frame blending, you will retain every single picture from your original clip.

    hi rafael,

yes fcp can throw the 2nd frame away for playback in 25fps,
but at least there has to be the possibility to make it decent slow-mo.
now i can’t make it play slowmo by using the data (50fps) recorded in a 25fps timeline.
it tries to blend every 2nd frame, although i have 50fps recorded.

    i simply don’t get it.

if that’s the proper workflow, fine, then i have to adapt.
but still to me it doesn’t make sense.

    cheers
