    Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone out there is using XDCAM and Avid. We are shooting with a F335 and editing on MC. When we used to shoot on tape the producer would create an Avid log and I would capture the needed clips, pretty much straight to the timeline. With the XDCAM we can create an ALE in the Sony browsing software and import the ALE into the Avid but I cannot then bring in the needed clips, which were subclipped by the producer. I can bring in whole clips but not just the subclips that we need. We tried creating an EDL and that gave us a timeline in the bin but I was unable to import the clips correctly.
Should we be renaming every disc, every clip and writing all of that back to the disc? Any and all help would be welcome because right now it is a slow process matching up clip numbers to the producers ALE.

    Thanks.

You can check out the video on XDCAM with Avid workflows by going to https://editorslounge.com/previously.html and clicking on the Sony EX and XDCAM previously on, then follow the link to the media gallery.

I am running into the exact same problem as Mark, and unfortunately the video didnt seem to answer this problem at all, just gave a different workflow entirely. I would love for my producer to have the power to make an ALE but avid just wont recognize it.

I stumbled across a possible solution buried deep in the Avid DS forums. The suggestion was to open the ALE in “Wordpad”. Then you switch the headings of the ‘NAME’ column and the ‘SUBCLIPTITLE’ column. Open the ALE in Log Exchange then import into Avid. I was able to bring in the clips the producer had requested. I did not try this with proxy clips. I brought in the hirez only. One frustrating thing is that when I did a batch import I had to tell it where to find each clip which is rather time consuming. It was also rather slow in bringing in the clips. I think it has to do with bringing in only part of each clip. I have only done this once so far so it this works for you and you figure out any improvements to this work flow please let me know.
