I’ve got an out of town shoot next week that I have requested an XDCAM from the camera crew, with the intention of somehow copying the files to a portable hard drive to bring back to my edit suite. (Vegas 9)

Can such a file transfer be done on-set? I assume I’m using MXF files. How many GB will 5 minutes of footage take?

    Thanks . . .

Sure can just bring your laptop and be sure to have EDCAM explorer loaded on it. (Free from Sony) Drop and drag the folders and you’re on your way. They are MP4 files that EDCAM can convert for you into MXF for use in your NLE. If you are only looking at 5 minutes worth the size will be negligible. I just shot a 1 1/2 hour 3 camera concert and was able to transfer the files in just a matter of minutes. The conversion time to MXF takes a bit but at least you can do it at home. We used Sony EX-1 cameras.

XDCAM EX files from BPAV folders can be readed natively on Vegas 9… no need to transcode to mxf anymore…. very fast and effective …..

    good luck

Was this new to version 9? I’ve never tried doing this in version 8 and would kick myself for wasting so much time if it did work. Thanks for the update.
