XDCAM music video sync problem – HELP!
i shot a music video on a Sony EX-1 at 720p24. the audio track was played back (with some sync marks at the beginning) for the band to lip sync to. i brought the data in directly using the latest version of the XDCAM clip browser.
now i’ve logged and imported all the footage, but none of it syncs up with the song… after about 30 seconds of playing, it’s clearly out of sync. i’ve tried processing the .wav file to make it a 48/16 AIFF and that didn’t work, i tried changing the project setting to 44.1 KHz and that didn’t work, i tried just about every project preset i could think of and the exact same thing kept happening. it would get progressively more out of sync.
as a last resort i tried using compressor to correct the timebase (in effect. slowing the audio down to 99.9%). this helped a little bit, but the clip still fell out of sync… just slower.
this is the first time i’ve ever worked with XDCAM footage and i really need help here. what am i doing wrong? how can i solve it?
i’ve done just about as much as i can think of in terms of making sure the project settings are correct (tried them all), and that the sample rate on the audio is correct. maybe i missed something, but i have been browsing boards all day and found nothing helpful.

Firstly what was the location playback device? Secondly the slowing of the file (which should be 48Khz not 44.1) by .1% makes sense because you sequence is probably 23.98 not 24.
I assume also that the mix you played on location is the same as the file you are trying to sync to. If so and your playback device was crystal sync accurate then the .1% should be right but as it isn’t, have you tried slowing it a little more. Also is the drift the same for all shots or is there some other variable?
If it holds for 30 seconds, surely you will be able to edit around that drift. Most music vids seem to have cut every 18 frames.

Just to add to Michael that in any case is not an XDCAM related problem.
