I have been using XDCAM HD422 through Final Cut. Everything looks and works great. I Export a sequence from FCP. Then in Compressor I do a conversion to H.264, best settings… Current FPS, automatic Keyframe and Automatic Data Rate. No Resizing. Same size (1920×1080)

The original exported movie plays perfectly. The H.264 has all sorts of stuttering. Never seen any problems like this with other conversions to H.264.

Has anyone else noticed this problem. Have a a solution? Thanks!

[Glenn Takakjian] “Keyframe and Automatic Data Rate”

I’m not a fan of the ‘automatic’ anything on a codec. See what the data rate is…

Then run it through with the Youtube preset – you’ll get a file that absolutely should play back, look good, etc.

Automatic Data Rate may well result in a data rate too high for some computers to play without stuttering. The encode may be fine but it may just be too high for smooth playback.
