I posted this in the FCP forum. It should have been here,

Has anyone run into a problem putting Leopard on a new MacPro?

We just finished setting up a new MacPro 8-core to work with XDCAM material from a F800 via a PDWF1600 deck along with some EX files.
The MacPro shipped with Snow Leopard which, as we all know, doesn’t work well with current Sony XDCAM Transfer. We needed Leopard but the new MacPro wouldn’t boot from a retail 10.5.6 disk. We used another MacPro to load a partition with 10.5.6 and updated it to 10.5.8. Back in the new MacPro 10.5.8 would boot. With a clean install of FCS3 and the latest XDCAM Transfer all is working fine. We will leave 10.6.1 alone until Sony, Matrox, et.al. finish their updates for Snow Leopard.

XDCAM Transfer with FCP7 and 10.6.1 sort of worked with XDCAM 422 clips. You could see the proxy thumbnails but it had trouble finding the source on import. With EX clips no thumbnails but it would import OK. Any news when Sony might have an update?
