  • XDCAM EX – what would I have to do re editing set-up?

    Hi there,
I need to buy a camera: I was on the verge of buying a Canon XH-A1 when I heard about the soon-to-be-released Sony XDCAM EX. Aside from what this new camera has to offer re picture quality and (via ExpressCard) drag-and-drop workflow, both of which sound really appealing, can someone tell me if I’m going to have to change my editing set up for the XDCAM? Will I need RAID drives, for example? Will I need some sort of HD i/o card?
I’m editing on a Mac (OSX, lots of RAM), using Avid Xpress Pro 5.7. Right now I’m using external firewire drives.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Malcolm

Malcolm, your system is fine. No need for RAIDS etc. The file sizes are only a bit larger than regular DV/DVCAM. No need for cards etc. FireWire is all you need for FAM file transfer; dive right in.

    Hi Nigel,
I’m also in the waiting queue. Any news about the release?
    Cheers,
    rafael
