XDCAM EX to ProRes export causes crashes/missing footage

May 22, 2008 at 7:50 pmHi all. Running FCP 6.0.2 with an Early 2008 8-Core / 8GB / 5TB / 10.5.2. All FCS updates are current.
I have XDCAM EX footage (1080/30p) that I’ve imported using the XDCAM Transfer app. I’m putting those XDCAM EX native Quicktimes into my ProRes HQ Final Cut sequence. It plays fine. But when I go to export a clip as ProRes to process in After Effects, FCP crashes or footage is missing in the exported movie.
Has anyone else run into this?
I see two workarounds:
1) Pre-processing all my EX footage to ProRes using Quicktime Player Pro. (Like to avoid this due to disk space and long processing times)
2) Export EX footage from FCP using the native EX codec, then converting it to ProRes with Quicktime Player (but this would introduce another round of EX compression, won’t it?)
Any other workarounds?

May 22, 2008 at 8:26 pmFCS 2 latest is FCP 6.0.3. It won’t show up in Software Update. I think it’s a pro apps updater that actually contains the latest. You could try it and see if that fixes your issue.

May 23, 2008 at 2:16 amHi Navarro,
You can not stay your whole life suffering a workflow like that.
You better look for the reason of your problem. As Jeff suggest, and I second, you should think about going 6.0.3.
Here is working without any problem.Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
PMBP 17″Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
JVC DTV-17″
SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table. -

May 23, 2008 at 2:27 pmYes, I’m using 6.0.3… the latest version. Sorry, that was a typo in my original post.
