An old post Dennis, but as it been refreshed then its worth clarifying that FCP does not convert XDCAM to ProRes … FCP imports and edits XDCAM formats in the native recording codec (it simply rewraps those clips as quicktime movie files, doesn’t transcode anything).

It’s true that many people (including myself evidently!) confuse transcoding and re-wrapping. Neither are ideal in most workflows, but they are a part of our lives in most cases.
