I am editing a two camera, green screen, shoot. I am doing the edit in Premiere CS3 and then the key in AE CS3. The footage was shot in HD using a SONY XDCAM EX1 at 1080 (60i).

I’ve been able to get the footage in Premiere, but then what…? What is the best format with minimum to no loss of quality to do my keying in AE? Also I need to have two different backgrounds one for each camera angle.

I was going to do the key in AE and then do the edit in Premiere but AE doesn’t seem to like the file format and gives me numerous black frames.

Any suggestions on streamlining this process.

    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

make sure you have downloaded the correct software from sony (it’s free) with all the XDCAM codecs and the use in both AE and Premiere should be OK. Unfortunately you shot interlaced footage. For Keying always try and shoot 1080 30p or deinterlace for a key. To work with interlaced footage in Ae set to lower field and to preserve details and then key. Keylight is a great keyer in Cs3. Also look at Primatte. I’ve had good results with both. Primatte will deinterlace for the key in it’s setup mode.

Thanks … realized we were shooting interlaced after the fact… first using the new cams. Live and learn, fortunatly the end result is a small web video so we should be ok. anything has got to be better than our old DV footage. Thought I had the codecs from the CD that came with the camera but I’ll check sony’s site. Thanks again.

Can’t find the codec on Sony’s site could you post links?

    sony has a micro site
    https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcam/resource.downloads.bbsccms-assets-micro-xdcam-downloads-XDCAMSoftwareDownload.shtml
go to the bottom where the Nle link is and dowload 2.71 version for FCP just be aware you need FCP ver 6.02 and you’re good.
