XDCAM codecs not working after FCP X re-install
I recently uninstalled and reinstalled FCP X in an attempt to fix an issue where the “send to compressor” command wasn’t working. Long story short, I managed to get that working (thanks to some great advice here), but now I seem to be having a different issue.
When attempting to use XDCAM Transfer to export some footage we had shot recently, the program acted as if I had not yet installed the XDCAM FCP codec. (No preview image, won’t export the clips) I have used this program on this computer several times already, and it always worked just fine before I had to uninstall FCP. I tried to do a Software Update, thinking that maybe I needed to download the codecs again, but it didn’t find anything to download. So, bottom line, Apple’s Software Update thinks I have the codecs, but XDCAM Transfer thinks I don’t.
Does anybody know a way I could reinstall the codecs manually? Or is my only option going to be to do a re-stage of the computer and start over from scratch? (If that’s the case, does anybody know how to do that on a new iMac that didn’t come with a disc?) Thanks!

Try downloading/installing codecs manually here:

You can also try reinstalling Sony Transfer if this doesn’t work.

Good suggestion, but when I tried it said “cannot install; a newer version is already installed”.
I tried re-installing XDCAM Transfer…that didn’t work either.

Next would be to look for the QT package receipt (in user > library > receipts) and delete that. You might want to also move the codecs (and only the codecs) listed on the that link I sent out, of the user > library > QuickTime folder (you can make a “QuickTime (disabled)” folder right next to it if you’d like).
This should “trick” the OS into thinking they aren’t installed.
If you wouldn’t mind, can you post a picture of your user > library > receipts > Quicktme folder with the XDCam codec selected and info window visible (column view).

I’m not seeing a “receipts” folder in my user library. In the Mac HD root library, the only items are BSD.pkg, InstallHistory.plist, and a folder with nothing in it called db.

Also, just try moving the codecs out of the QT folder and running the Codec installer again.

I’m on Lion. I tried moving the codecs out of the QT folder as well…no dice. I think I’m just going to try a full system restore.

Hmm. I don’t know how the packages work in lion.
It must be different.
A system reinstall seems pretty drastic.
See if making a new user with admin privs fixes it first.
If you do want to reinstall, restart your Mac and hold command-r to load the recovery disk.
