Just installed a leopard on an intel mac running fcp 6.0.2 and installed the newest drivers for xdcam and it seems to be working but for some reason the xdcam disc does not show up on the desktop like in tiger? anybody have any experience with this. FCP recognizes and the OS recognizes it as well because i can see it in disc utility but it doesent show up on the desktop. Thnaks

Are the XDCAM drivers Leopard compatible? WHy did you upgrade to Leopard when things were working in Tiger?

It is never wise to upgrade a working system before finding out that all your third party devices are compatible.

well, a Model T Ford got you from A to B so you could say that worked just fine so why upgrade it. You know what though, a BMW M6 is a lot faster, safer, more comfortable and since it’s not American it can go round corners!!

    ;o)

The XDCAM driver page doesn’t mention OSX10.5 so it may or may not be an issue

And yet more great advice! Sometimes i wonder why people even post things on this forum. A simple no its not compatible with leopard would have sufficed, but i do love the smart ass condescending remarks just the same!

hang on there snippy, the car analogy was aimed at the “why upgrade” brigade and the link to the XDCam driver pages points out the root cause of the potential issue.

If you don’t like it then don’t bloody well read it!

Are you saying that Tiger is a Model T and Leopard is a loaded BMW? Is Tiger that antiquated? No. IN that metaphor, you need to have MacOS 6.5 be the Model T. Or even the AppleII OS. Tiger and Leopard are very close, and if you see any performance upgrade, it would be very minor.

I wouldn’t put an 8 cylinder engine inside last years model of car unless I knew that it had all the connections and was compatible. If you install it, then find that you have three hoses that have nowhere to connect, and a few left over parts, then…well…you are hosed.

This is a valid question and concern. We are in the process of replacing a couple of G5s with Mac Pros, and the Mac Pros come loaded with Leopard….we had no choice in the matter.

Sony better dang well have this fixed by NAB.

Here is the only information I have on the question at hand. Sorry, it’s not much help:

Yes, I was one of the guinea pigs and there are issues under Leopard. 2.1 works great under Tiger but with Leopard there is some issues with the ProDisc driver. It won’t prevent you from using it altogether, but it’s not the best and it messed up my disc library as I’ll explain below. You won’t get an icon for the ProDisc on the desktop either.

When you first connect the camera/deck you get an icon with a volume label of ‘untitled’ and the first thing I do is give the disc a volume label and then eject the disc and reload it.

Under Leopard, existing volume labels aren’t recognized and are replaced with something like the UMID. This messed up my importing of additional material from a disc that I had imported earlier.

I am set up to have imported material go like this.

Movies –> Sony XDCAM Transfer —>(folder, labeled with disc volume label)–> Ciip Title.

So Leopard gave the same disc a new volume label and created an unnecessary folder.

Also, anything I had imported under Tiger does not display properly in the proxy viewer. The thumbnail is correct, but the clip playback is stretched when it doesn’t need to be. I supposed I could re-import all the proxies and get them to work, but I still have the disc naming issue.

    For all those involved:

I see vendors selling the XDCAM in package deals with a mac pro , and guess what? LEOPARD..!

So the original poster might not be the stupid ass some of you portray him to be! ( even if it dont work )

    Move along!
