This is my first attempt with Sony XDCam footage, and there are 2 problems. When attempting to import clips in FCP using the transfer app, the transfer window opens, but after about 10 seconds FCP crashes. I have updated the transfer app, trashed preferences, used default preferences in the transfer app while disconnecting external drives and it still crashes. Finally, I have opened the transfer app only and imported all the clips, then imported those clips into FCP. Seems to work fine — except, and this is problem #2. All clips, when played in FCP look fine. When played in QT player, whether original QTclips (created by transfer app) or exported from FCP, have aliasing on any moving vertical line (pedestrians, moving vehicles, camera pans, etc. All motion is blurry.

    XDCAM EX 1080i50 35 MB/s VBR 1920×1080
sequence is in native codec, but I tried changing a copy to PRORES 422, exported as QT both sequences, using PRORES 422; again in native codec, but it always looks the same.

    Thanks for any help

The shabby look in quicktime player is probably because in preferences you haven’t selected “use high quality video settings..”

    Michael,
Thanks for your help, but while that box wasn’t checked, it made no difference. Any other thoughts? Is there something in the transfer program I’m overlooking?
