  • x264 encoder component failing in Compressor 3.5.3 – Failed: Codec not installed

I’m having issues with the h264 codec lightening video when I export with Compressor. From my reading, I seems the gamma is shifting a bit. I heard that the x264 component is a better codec and that it fixes the gamma issue so I thought I’d try it.

SO, I downloaded the dmg, and placed the x264Encoder.component in the Library/Quicktime folder. I see the x264 option show up when I create a setting in Compressor so I assume it’s installed correctly.

When I submit the job though, it “thinks” for a second and displays “Failed: Codec not installed”. I also tried placing this in the UserName/Library/QuickTime folder thinking it might be a path issue but that did not help.

Finally, I tried using QT 7.6.6 and it exported fine using x264 codec. So why the heck is this not working in Compressor? Any tips?

I’m using OS 10.6.6, QT 7.6.6 and Compressor 3.5.3 if that helps.

    That shouldn’t be that way.
Why don’t you run “Compressor Repair”?
