I was working with Aharon’s newest “Writing with Light” tutorial yesterday in an effort to create some new studio promos.

Instead of using a stock shape or custom mask, I was trying to recreate the effect using text outlines instead. After some fiddling around with it, I was able to create the effect but the colors aren’t as bright and don’t really look like they were “written with light”, they look closer to something from Ghostbusters.

I was thinking that the adjusting the contrast of the fractal noise might work, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

    Thanks, as always.

If you’re using the ‘Add’ blending mode, as you should be, then you can just duplicate the layer to increase the intensity. Alternatively you can pre-comp the layer and then duplicate the pre-comp inside your final comp. This would give you the greatest flexibility as you would only have to update the layer inside your pre-comp if there are any changes. Those changes will be reflected in every instance of your pre-comp.

You could also add a Box Blur (use at least 3 iterations) to one of the pre-comps at the top of your layers in the final comp to give the image a pretty glow.

Thanks, Darby. It didn’t occur to me to simply duplicate the precomped layer. It worked great. Cheers.
