  • Writing LUTs For Resolve: .dat vs .cube

I’m using Light Space to write out some LUTs for Resolve. I have the option of either .cube, .dat. I noticed the preset LUTs that come with Resolve are .dat.

Was hoping someone more enlightened than me could explain the difference between the two. And if BM is including presets as .dat, is that preferable?

BTW, I saw some earlier posts where Dwayne from DaVinci said .dat files needed to do in Arri folder in App Support and that .cube should go in CineSpace folder. I had not seen this but was able to put .cube files into Arri folder and Resolve read them. Perhaps Dwayne’s post predated the current software I’m on.

    Cheers, Chris
