How can I wrap mxf clips in quicktime or mp4 for editing in Premiere and also so I can use quick view in Mac Finder (very handy!)?

I’ve used Edit Ready but the clips shot in long gop and wrapped in mov won’t import into Premiere Pro v12 with video, only audio. This seems strange since the same clips in the camera-original format mxf import fine. Perhaps this is a problem with my older version of PPro?

I’ve used AME for mxf clips and converted to Pro Res. Not lately.

Premiere handles MXF and MP4 just fine. MP4 files are visible in the Finder (depending on the codec). AME will rewrap, but that still might not make the file visible in the Finder. Still depends on the codec.

Thanks for response. Had a look in AME and can’t see where and how it will re-wrap clips to mp4 or mov without transcoding.

In AME, if you have an MXF that you want to rewrap as an MOV, then select Quicktime and Match Source (Rewrap).

I saw your post only now and went back to AME and tried Quicktime then Match Source (rewrap) but “The Source file’s video stream is not compatible with this preset.” If you switch to .mp4 it re-encodes.

“Perhaps this is a problem with my older version of PPro?”

Possibly. Current versions (14 & 15) work with mxf just fine on my OSX system.
