Wow do you do this in FCP5?
Posted by Kevin Mcquade on May 10, 2006 at 8:27 pm2 things… How do you apply a transition to multiple layers?
…and how do you paste copied material to a track that differs from the original?
Thanks, Kevin

Razor blade or control-V to isolate the area. Option-C to nest first one side then the other. Move the nests onto their own layers because you will have to add handles inside the nests. Double click the nests to add handles for your transitions. Tweak their positions to re-align sync…
This is clunky, and a pain. There is likely a better way, but that mehtod got me over a tough spot once.
Pasting to different tracks involves auto-selects. The rules are a bit weird at first but I’ve gotten used them (mostly) with use.
Here is a link…
https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/auto_select_fcp_4_balis.html
that goes into great detail.
Basically turn off the auto selects for all the tracks below where you want to paste. Or for audio, all the tracks visually above the one where you want to paste.

May 11, 2006 at 5:51 amIf you cmd-click the edit points on the multiple layers you can use the keyboard shortcut to apply the default transition. Is that what you mean?
The default paste is always to the track the material came from unless you change the autoselect controls.
All the best,
Tom

Thanks, I was growing really tired of moving farther down the timeline, pasting, and re-positioning the clip. And placing 4 dissolves was quite annoying as well, although I guess I could have nested the clips… D’OH!
