Activity Forums Avid Media Composer Would you use multi procs or single w/ hyperthreading?

    What kind of moola do you have? If you’ve got the dough, dual-Xeon’s are the way to go… However, if you’re looking to save money and plan on never adding Mojo, Studio, etc., then a single P4 will suffice very nicely.

    I’d agree with that view. We’ve got dual Xeons in use in our Adrenaline suites but the only real difference compared to a single Xeon (used in our NewsCutter XPs) or P4 is the ability to play back more video tracks in realtime simultaneously. Sure, renders are a little quicker but unless you can justify the cost…

    I hyperthread a single 3 gb P4 with superior results to not hyperthreading – more stable, reliable playback and faster rendering.

    I ended up buying the HP xw8200 with dual 3.2 2 meg Xeons and 3 GB ram- and the nvidia quardra FX1400
