Would you use multi procs or single w/ hyperthreading?

June 14, 2005 at 8:16 pmWhat kind of moola do you have? If you’ve got the dough, dual-Xeon’s are the way to go… However, if you’re looking to save money and plan on never adding Mojo, Studio, etc., then a single P4 will suffice very nicely.

We’ve got dual Xeons in use in our Adrenaline suites but the only real difference compared to a single Xeon (used in our NewsCutter XPs) or P4 is the ability to play back more video tracks in realtime simultaneously. Sure, renders are a little quicker but unless you can justify the cost…

June 15, 2005 at 1:29 pmI hyperthread a single 3 gb P4 with superior results to not hyperthreading – more stable, reliable playback and faster rendering.
