  • Would installing ProApps QuickTime Codecs work on FCP 6?

Posted by Maurice Coombs on October 22, 2011 at 2:35 pm

After an iTunes update my HDV mov files won’t play in FCP or Quicktime. I came across ProApps QuickTime Codecs and wanted to know if by installing this would it work on FCP 6?

    Thanks

Sorry but what is SQ and HQ version. I would think its Standerd Quality and HD Quality, unless its something else. And if so where do I go to check for this.

    Thanks

Yes that’s right. FCP6 won’t handle the LT or 4444 versions. I think in FCP6 SQ was just called Apple ProRes.

If you have FCP 6 installed you should already have the codecs for ProRes that it can use installed too. When converting your HDV files to ProRes use the 422 version of ProRes (which is SQ).

Also don’t let Quicktime 7.6 upgrade any further (to QT 7.7) it’ll create the same problem (not that it makes any difference to you now).

Your problem is that the HDV codec doesn’t works, isn’t it?
    That’s nothing related with Prores.
Run Software update and see what you find there.
The set of codecs on your link clearly state:
“This update is recommended for all users of Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, or Compressor 4”.
Not sure if will help you or will screw things even more.

What iTunes version did you update to? I have FCP 6.0.6, iTunes 10.5, QT 7.7, and I have absolutely no problems playing HDV. I agree with Rafael. Just run software update. If you’re concerned, you can report here what it’s telling you to install and see what people say…
