Would an upgrade work or I need a better computer?
Posted by Philippe Orlando on May 19, 2013 at 9:28 pmHello,
Right now with a computer built in 2007 with a Intel
Q6700 at 2.7 GHZ and 4 GB of ram I can only play HDV footage or Cineform Neo in the preview mode. Do you think upgrading to the lastest edition of Vegas will allow me to play footage in at least Good if not Best mode? Or do I need to build another computer with I7, etc
Thanks

to upgrade both hardware and software.Steve Rhoden

May 20, 2013 at 11:35 amI agree with Steve. I had QuadCore like your 6 years ago. I just upgraded to a HexCore last year and the difference was like night and day. Also more recent versions of Vegas Pro can handle the newer formats better so both and hardware and software upgrade are in order. Here’s what I built:
Intel Hex Core Video Editing Workstation

WD Black are the high performance drives. These are the best for video editing. WD Green are the low power consumption drives. They sacrifice speed for quiet operation and low power. You don’t want these for your video editing project drive but they are fine as a media drive. WD Blue is somewhere in between; giving you lower power with good performance. WD Red are meant for RAID and Network Attached Storage (NAS) enclosures.
I have an SSD for my boot drive, a WD Green for my media drive, a WD Black for my project drive, and WD Red’s in a 12TB RAID 5 for my archive.
