  • Working with Red Codec and DVCPro 50 in same timeline

Posted by Shaun Lavery on December 3, 2007 at 12:06 am

    Hey Guys,

Wondering if anybody has worked with the Red Footage and DVC Pro 50 footage on the same timeline in FCP. Anything weird to know about the workflow, rendering or exporting sequences?

    Thanks

Sorry but why in the world would you want or need to do this?

Your idea is fraught with issues and problems, and if you truly want to work in 4K why
do you want to add DV 50 to the mix.

    however.

Convert the Red footage down to 1K and mix with the DV50- you really do not want to use the 2 together in the same timeline at their respective frame sizes.

Does the Red converter application…or TWO applications rather…do either of them allow you to convert RED to DV50? If so…do that. Or upconvert the Dv50 to HD via a Kona 3 or something.

You might be the first to do this, being that RED is so new.

Speaking of RED here is some new information.

New REDCODE RAW codec supports RT playback in Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 and editing of the QuickTime Reference movies generated in camera. The new patch, available for download on the RED website: https://www.red.com/en_US/apple also allows playback of REDCODE RAW movies directly from QuickTime Player or other QuickTime enabled application
