    Hi there,
I’m making a music video using footage I’ve ripped from a DVD. I looked around for advice on the highest quality codec and resolution “ripable” from a DVD. I came up with mv2 and aiff audio. Everything play and sounds just fine in final cut. But when I export it, there are lots of interlaced lines (I’m failry sure that’s what they are) it only happens when there’s movement in the frame and only around the mobile areas. I was thinking it might be my sequence settings or the codec I’m using to export. I made both the “10-but uncompressed” codec, and set the resolution to the same size as the original file (720X480).
    Questions:
    1) Is using mv2 and aiff the highest quality and resolution for ripping from a DVD?
    2) If so, what settings should i be using in FCP?
    3) and why do I have interlaced lines? (they’re in the viewer during playback, and even more so in the exported footage)

I’m pretty well versed in FCP, but haven’t used this particular format yet, so I don’t know if I’m doing it properly.
    Programs at my disposal:
    MactheRipper
    MPEG Streamclip
    Handbrake
    Compressor
    FCP
    Quicktime (w/ MPEG-2 codec)

M2V is the original file from inside the DVD. Holds all the quality, but is not an editable format.
The perfect codec would be 8b Uncompress, but you would end up with very big files.
    Prores is the best solution.
You can get rid of the Interlacing while you transcode with MPGStreamclip.

Have u tried to add a de-interlace filter on the material before export?

You need to rip the DVD’s to a .mov file to edit with.
mv2 files are not for editing.
