I’m working on footage that I’m adding a lot of depth-of-field effects to so that requires me to make new mattes and lens blur adjustment layers at certain points in the timeline to add new dof effects on those scenes.

The problem is, when I make a new matte comp (I make a solid and precompose it) I want to open it next to my footage comp (so far so good) and I want to edit the matte from the beginning of the timeline (the matte shouldn’t evolve) while the footage does not go to the beginning of its timeline. Problem is that both timelines keep synchronizing, I need to work on them independently. Ideas?

Check your preferences settings and make sure to turn off (deselect) synchronize time of all related items.
