    Hi,

    I have HDV footage: shot with Z-1, 1080 60i, 1440*1080
I need to edit this for SD output.
What I’ve been doing, which my previous editor had done, is like this:
First, we capture as it is, which is HDV 1080 60i
Then, for some reasons such as storage problem, we downconvert this to 720*486 in FCP using Quicktime conversion. and option we set is Apple Proress 422(HQ)/NTSC 720*486(16*9).
After this, we reimport this into FCP. We make SD sequence and drop it into this sequence.
However, I found that as soon as we drop mov into SD sequence, it becomes 4:3, which I assume natural. The problem is that I still want mov to keep its aspect ratio, 16:9.
Is there anyway where it make letterbox automatically? Should I manualy squeeze the footage?

So, I don’t know if my question above would make sense. In sum, I’d like to know the proper workflow when I work with HDV 1080 60i footage for SD output.

    Thanks,

    Sung

Right-click on the clip in the Browser
    Go to Item Properties
    Format…
Click next to Anamorphic, a check mark should appear
    Click OK

That should make the clip widescreen, which when dropped into a 4:3 sequence should automatically letterbox it.

    Hope this helps!
