Are you talking about color correction or painting with light?

A color meter will tell you which gels to use to “correct;” to use gels artistically, it’s a matter of personal taste and vision. Just as tubes of oil paint don’t come with instructions, gels are decided by the eyes of the cinematographer. Just experiment until you find what suits you.

    Good shooting!
