I just started a new job, re-formating media for mobile downloads… we use final cut studio and edit allsorts of media – so far so good..

the problem is that the mac’s quicktime and final cut do not read AVI video files.
in the finder it says “the movie could not be opened – mac error 1023” the odd thing is that it previews fine in the finder window but will not open directly in quicktime!!

also when i try to import the AVI’s in to FCP, it says “file error: 1 file recognised, 0 access denied, 1 unknown”

Now this may be a case of pure ignorance on our part: the old mac vs pc incompatibility issue, but the boss assures me the AVI’s WERE WORKING FINE on the mac untill recently

We are at a loss to know why they would suddenly not work… that is unless it was all a dream that the AVI’s did indeed work on the mac – since then we’ve had to convert all AVI’s to movs using sorenson squeeze which works well but takes ages. But in theory (mine and the bosses anyway) we shouldnt need to do this

    any help always appreciated
    Thanks
