Working with a translator
I hope I got this in the right forum but I am going to be working with someone who will be translating an interview from Spanish to English and wanted to know if there are any tips in the best way to accomplish this for subtitles. I have thought about braking it up into 10 second segments and getting the translation for each one then adding the subtitles after or running a phrase or two and getting the translation then writing down the timecode for that period. Does anyone have any experience with this or any advise on the best way to tackle this?

If you have prelude it is an easy program for the translator to work in and add traslation as notes on top of the video. Notes can be imported into Pr as metadata

I’ve sent lots of clips to translators, and the most reliable method I’ve come up with is to export the whole chunk of what I want translated with the “Video–>Timecode effect applied, which puts in a window-burn of the TC. I then give them a spreadsheet to type into – one column is timecode and the other is their translation. This makes it reasonably easy for an editor/assistant to copy/paste subtitles into the appropriate places in the sequence.
There are probably more high tech solutions, but this is tried and true.
