I wonder if anyone can help me with the following. I have received 5K red rushes with a resolution of 4800 X 2700. If I want to edit them in FCPX, my options to create a project do not include these dimensions. The system suggests 5120 X 2700. However, this results in an image that is slightly squeezed.
    Any thoughts on this subject?

You can create a custom preset in your project menu with that frame size.

I’m afraid you cannot. Not these dimensions

    Hi Steven,
I am having the same issue with my footage from a Red Epic. Did you ever figure out a workaround?

    Thanks.
    best,

No, sorry. After this, the company decided to stick with fcp7 for the time being. If you find a solution, let me know. Cuz I love working with FCPX.

I didn’t find a perfect solution but I noticed that one of the options — 4k at 4096 x 2304 — seems to be the same ratio, just reduced. Not 5K, only 4K but it seems to preserve aspect ratio and still allow to work in 4k at least. Hope this helps.

My thoughts, having just been given similar footage.
As this is “5k” 16×9, I would make a UHD 3840×2160 comp and scale the footage to that. You then have a standard “4k” frame size that ProRes and DnxHD will be happy with, and fits DCP standards. This is what I would assume would be the intent of shooting at that resolution.
If you are just cutting it for a later conform, do it at HD, from transcodes
I am only just realising that cameras basically make their frame sizes to maximise their sensors, and give people crop room for later. Unfortunately nobody pays attention to the framing guides…
