I was given 3 uncompressed quicktime files to work with. They don’t have timecode. I am using final cut pro 6. Is there a way that I can recompress them to an offline quality, then recconect them to the original file for final export when I am done? I have done this before when working with clips that have timecode, and I had to reconnect them using a deck, but not when I have to reconnect to quicktime files. Any thoughts?

They SHOULD have timecode. Even if they all start at 00:00:00:00…they should all start counting up from there. They don’t? If they don’t have timecode, I don’t know how you can work with them, much less convert to lower res copies and hope to match it back. So there must be SOME code.

If there is, use the workflow I outline in my article in this online magazine:

Well I guess they do have timecode that begins with 00:00:00. I guess what I meant was that they don’t have timecode that refers to the timecode on a tape. Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out.
