Working in Vegas with two computers
Hello all,
This is my first post so my apologies for any unintential fauxpas. I am working with Vegas 6c. My desktop is a Dell XPS Gen5 with plenty of power/ram. Editing has become an addictive hobby so I bought a Dell 9400 (2 gigs ram, dual core, etc) to take on vacation with me.Working on the desktop I keep one folder per project on an external 300 gig Maxtor. Within that folder all video clips, stills, music and *.veg files are in clearly marked sub-folders. Rendered files are sent to an internal 250 gig drive (My Documents / My DVDs).
Can I simply copy the Maxtor project folder (with all the subfolders included) to my laptop and continue work without interruption while on vacation? If I do that and make modifications can I then copy that project folder back to the Maxtor and have it over write the original one with the changes made while the folder was “visiting” the laptop? I am concerned that the file links established in the veg files will change (if that is the correct terminology). Could anyone advise me on this?

As long as you have all your project media available, you’ll be fine.
No need to overwrite your previous .veg file. You should be saving incremental versions as you work anyway.Also, it’s not a good idea to keep your only .veg files on the same drive with your media. If your drive fails, you’ve got nothing.

I will back up the veg files somewhere. My only problem will be figuring out how to transver 12-15 gigs of media to the laptop. Probably just unplug the Maxtor and re-plug it to the laptop. YOur help is most appreciated.Scottk (Bermuda)
