We have a 16×9 monitor mounted vertically.

Currently I create a 16×9 sequence (DV/DVCAM Anamorphic) and spend my entire project working on it with my head tilted at a 90 degree angle.

Is there a way to create a vertical project that I then rotate into my final timeline for dumping to tape. I’ve tried creating a tall comp, but I get thrown with the 1.2 Pixel Aspect ratio (720×480) which only seems to be adjustable on the horizontal and not the vertical.

I would do it a bit differently:

I would create “working comp” 540×720 pixels with square pixels. (9×16)
I would do all the work using this comp, so that I wouldn’t have to tilt my head.

When I’m happy with the result I would create “Final Comp” – 720×480 anamorphic, put my “working comp” into it, rotate it 90 degrees and render.

I took your idea and modified it slightly.

    I created a square pixel 480w x 864 h (720 x 1.2 pixel aspect ratio of anamorphic).

I then took this comp and dropped it into a standard 16×9 anamorphic comp and rotated it 90 degrees. It fit perfectly.

Bonus item: the DV preview in AFX shows the composition correctly on my 4×3 monitor. This makes life so much easier.

That’s right. I made a mistake calculating the required size of the “working comp”
