hello all. i edit in premiere and when a scene needs effects or something undoable in premiere, i do it in afterefects, exporting and importing uncompressed avis.

recently on adobe’s site, i read that in the cross country road race movie they cut the film in premiere and then imported the project into after effects and applied effects there.

i was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or wanted to share their workflow. the flow from adobes site was hard for me to grasp, since often times you dont know how the scene is going to cut until u apply the effects.

i work usually with panasonic 24p footage. thanks!

I usually cut in Premiere Pro. Then the smaller sections that require After Effects get copied from the Premiere Pro timeline to the After Effects timeline. I perform the task in AE and then export to the same exact codec I use in Premiere Pro. Which is either DV-AVI or the Cineform codec depending on if I am editing SD or HDV.

Why not use uncompressed? Because Premiere Pro is going to have to compress it anyway while rendering. So I might as well only render once – in AE. Since I do my titles in AE, there is little chance that rendering in Premiere Pro will be necessary if I bring it back in properly.

Sorry, but I have no experience with 24p.
