  workflow…progressive or interlaced?

  We are doing some editing on material originated in XDCAM EX @ 30P. The final programmes are delivered on DVCAM tapes in PAL. What would be the best practice? The process is to edit the 30P material, then in software (Compressor) make the frame rate change but still in HD, then to finally downscale to PAL SD 16:9.
  Up to now, we have been outputting the edit as an interlaced ProRes file. Then stay in ProRes for all the conversion and downscaling. But occasionally we have noticed some visible interlacing and sometimes the final PAL output has had some very strange horizontal stripes.
  Would it be better practice to keep everything in progressive, until the final output to DVCAM?
  I just wonder how efficient Compressor is in the interlace process and second the interlace starts out top field first, but PAL DVCAM is lower field first, could this cause more problems.
  I hope I explained it correctly.
