I have a job and the footage was all shot on the Sony F900. The footage is being Captured from HDCAM to Hard drive then turned over to me for the editorial.

    Here is my system:
    8 core MacPro, OS 10.5.6
    8 gigs ram
    Final cut 6.0.5
    Decklink HD EXTREME single link
    CalDigit HDone Raid

I need to know what codec/compression will work best wt my system
and retain the best quality from the original shoot and still be able to edit smoothly, (multiple video and audio streams). I need to pass the information on to the people doing the capture and transfer to HDD.

    So am I looking at 4.2.2 10-bit , 4.2.2 8-bit uncompressed 1080 ? (it was shoot at 24p)
My card is a single link and my RAID is not optical, so, I guess 10-bit 4.4.4 is probable out of the question, (although I’m not sure the 900 will even do 4.4.4).
I don’t want to go down in quality as highly compressed as DVCPRO HD and would like to do this without having to do the whole offline/online edit. I would like to do it all as a final online back to HDD and DVD.

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Dane

    Hi Dane,

10-bit Uncompressed 4:2:2 will be your best option and the Caldigit HDOne should be able to support this data rate.

    Thanks Kristian,

    I’ll have them make 10bit 4.2.2
