    Hi All,

My workstation at home is Vegas 11, while the video house I rent cameras from is FCPX.

I’m capturing from the camera now (in FCPX) here at the spot (it’s impractical for me to bring the camera home to capture directly into Vegas) and would like to find an easy way to bring those files home to edit on my pc.

I’ve searched and found that Vegas does support Pro Res (for reading), but I’m not sure what the ‘create optimized media’ format is in FCPX.

Is the optimized media just a setting, or does anyone know the default? And, if it is pro res, can I just navigate to the folder containing these files and copy / bring them home with me for Vegas Pro?

    Thanks for any tips!

    Hi,
Yes if you create optimised media in fcpx it will make a new folder in the event called optimised media. This will contain all your prores files which will play in vegas as long as you have QuickTime installed on the pc (free download from apple)

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks very much Dave,

    It’s greatly appreciated.

I had a clue, but when ‘get info’ clicking on the files it didn’t show the codec (at least not easily to my eyes).

It’s nice to have your confirmation..

As Dave said, Will work fine in Vegas as long as you have the
latest version of Quicktime installed…. Content compatiblity
between Windows and Mac is getting closer.

    Thanks Steve..

Any experience with how the format plays with Vegas in terms of speed / efficiency?

Is there a Windows (or Vegas) alternative / similar codec that edits more smoothly in Vegas than the pro res?

(not asking this second question in regards to this camera.. Just for general knowledge.

Speed and efficiency will be the same as handling any other
common format in Vegas with the same resolution.
