I didn’t see this question asked on any of the forums so I’m hoping this isn’t a repeat.

Within our company we have multiple editors, and from time to time we have to pass off a project file that one editor started, to another editor to finish. With this comes potential issues of organizational/workflow styles. Some editors edit more out of their browser (setting in/out points, etc.) while others work more from their timelines (pulling all raw footage into a sequence, and pulling up good parts of clips onto tracks above).

We’re asking ourselves whether we should create a standard workflow for our company, or if we should somehow find a way to manage acclimating to different editors preferred workflows. We don’t want to hinder people’s creativity by forcing them into a workflow they’re not used to, but we also don’t want to spend unnecessary time trying to figure out how to navigate each others project files.

    Any suggestions?

Even if someone prefers to cut in the sequence as opposed to the source monitor…

I don’t think it’s too much to ask for them to duplicate the sequence, close the gaps and delete the extraneous clips prior to handing the work off.

and just have a standard naming convention for the sequence that’s ready for the next editor to take over
