A client of mine is going to do the main editing on a G5 Quad with large amout of ram, declink extreme card in and be sourced by a J30

I need to be able to do very basic content editing no FX just dtraight edits on my imac 1.8 with 1.5 gig ram all that is for is content cut down for my corporate customer, ( will not be pushing the machine )
and the imac I have tested did the job i wanted without the need to buy 2 quads…. in DV video format that is

So my question is what would be the best workflow if I am capturing through the decklink card using the systems i have that would enable me
just to play back files in real time ( no fx just sraight cutting the odd slomo maybe)

What would be the best way to set up a project to work this way and what format should I capture in. And what should I use in the easy set up listings

Thank you all in advance for your help

What’s a J30? Are you running uncompressed video? You really can’t do that with an iMac. The drive won’t sustain the throughput needed for that kind of data.

    All the best,

Your best bet is probably an offline/online scenario. You’re not going to be able to work with anything more than DV on your iMac. J30 DigiBeta decka have firewire – maybe you can recapture the rushes in DV, then use the cut you’ve done to point back to the uncompressed stuff. TCs will match fine. Or use FCPs offline resolution?
