  • workflow – getting unlinked m2v audio/video linked in source monitor

Posted by Dave Messinger on March 10, 2009 at 6:32 pm

I imported a 1 hr. m2V file into PP3 – M2v already on computer captured with another program. The M2v is video only – but there is an audio file to go with it.

After placing the m2v on the timeline and syncing the related audio, I use the source monitor to edit selected sections using I/O’s and sending to timeline.

The issue I have noticed is that the original 1 hr. m2v that was on the timeline keeps getting adjusted length wise to the various I/O’s I set in the source monitor.

While that is workable, what I would like to do is place the 1 hr m2v clip in the project folder with the associated audio so I can view that in the source monitor and send my cuts down to the timeline – but I can’t figure how to do that – a copy / paste is not available. I need the audio linked to the video in the source monitor in order to make the cuts.

You can nest the video with the audio in a new seqeunce. Now instead of putting the good stuff on the timeline you get rid off the bad stuff.

Thanks. I tried that – maybe I got it wrong – but I created a new sequence, placed the m2v and audio files in it, synced and joined them, double clicked on one of the clips and placed it in the source monitor, then switched to another sequence where I wanted to send i/o’s to – and every time I set an O point, PP3 errors out and closes – and I have to reload the project. Some kind of screen error – it refers to a scr file.

I have tried this about 4 times with consistent results – always an error and close of the program.

And to add to that, it takes PP3 15 minutes to load my 1080i project – that basically only has the 2 m2v video and audio files (each one hour in length) in it. So each time it bombs, it’s another 15 minutes to get back into it to try it again to have it bomb out consistently.

15 minutes for 1 hour video is too long.
Something is not quite right. When was the last time you cleaned up your machine?

It’s actually 2 1 hour clips – and I defrag weekly – and I have less than 50% of drives full – program on one drive, project and media files on the other. It doesn’t seem right to me – and I can load the files in Avid Liquid in less than 2 minutes – but it is definitely 15 with PP3 – I made another post about that – but haven’t gotten response on it.

    Hi Dave…

    It’s actually like this…

    1) Create a new Seqeunce
    2) Put Unlinked audio and video clip sin the sequence in sync with eachother (linking is not necessary)
    3) Close the sequence
    4) Go to the Project window and drag the the sequence into the source viewer
    5) mark in and out in the source viewer as with any clip
    6) Edit to a New Destination sequence…..

Double clicking the clip on the timeline loads that event on the timeline into the source viewer for editing….and is not used for editing on to a different sequence….

Got it – that worked – thanks – no bombing out.

Still wish I could resolve the long load time – or have someone tell me that is just the way it is – 15 minutes for a project to load with 2 1-hr hdv clips – but for some reason common sense tells me that is way too long – especially with already defragmented drives.
