    Greetings,

I have searched and read many posts, but need a little affirmation, or direction on workflow. I feel like I am drowning in numbers. Either that or I have numbers but no knowledge to go with it. Help!

Here is what I am wanting to do. I am coming in from a DVX100b-24pa. I edit on a “NTSC DV 24p Widescreen (720×480, 23.976 fps)” setting. I am looking to edit a rough cut, send to AE for effects, and then come back for color correction, and final sound.

    So here is/are my question(s)

Is this even the right work flow? It’s what I have been using, but I am not 100% confident that is the right method. If it isn’t what is the best work flow for editing for effects?

Then, what would be the best settings for 24pa?

At the end of the day, I want my 24pa, to be a 24p project for both file(.avi) and DVD.

I have read that its the 2-3-3-2 pull down cadence if I want to keep editing, and its the 2-3 pull down for final renders.

Am I even close? Life preserver anyone? glug…glug…

Well for me Neal…..through thorough personal needs
i worked out my personal workflow when working with DV in vegas
and after effects.I bought the Mainconcept DV Codec
and render out from after effects using this codec,
then place this back in vegas for finishing….hence
because vegas has the smart rendering feature, no
further compression is required when rendering this final
format back to DV (as you know too much rendering (recompression),
is what degrades your footage over time.
….Just my little two cents for now on this matter.

remember, esp if doing a rough cut in vegas, just export an AAF file, which AE will read without problem, so you only have to render FROM AE to Vegas
