Workflow From 16mm>1080i>DVD
So, I’ve written about the problems I’ve had with this project before on here and I’ve decided to just start over. Here’s my proposed workflow, please tell me if this is bound to work.
I have 4:3 16mm footage, it was transferred to 1080i Apple ProRes 422 with a 3:2 pull down. I already edited the footage on another video format from an earlier transfer. That edit also had a pull down I never removed and I was having big interlacing line problems with that version of the film as there is a lot of movement.
My plan is this:
Take the original edit of this film.
Make a cut in the audio where every cut in the image is.
Take the 3:2 pull down off the new, 1080i footage.
Since the 1080i footage is 16:9 and the 16mm footage is 4:3 I’ll crop off the letter boxes that were added during the transfer.
Make a new project and put the HD, 4:3, 24fps footage in the timeline so I can be prompted to change the project setting apropriately.
Compare the frames from the beginning of each cut in the original edit of the film with the new HD footage by switch between the timelines of each project.
Link these cuts of the HD footage to the audio track.
Start figuring out how to put this mess of DVD.Sounds overly complicated but this is all I can think to do.
Please God, help me.
My problems have included: spontanious letter boxing of 4:3 footage making them 16:9 again, choppy 24p video, and interlacing lines. I hate digital video so much.
Thanks for you help!
