  • Workflow for syncing up film rushes using AUX timecode?

Posted by Eugene Reynolds on April 17, 2009 at 8:06 pm

So I have film rushes TKed to HDCam and each take is idented with a Digi Slate showing the live timecode generated by the sound recordist as he records to hard disk recorder. This is to enable me to combine the picture and audio in sync before I edit.
I’m afraid I assumed that the workflow would be the same as Avid and I’ve just got to the bit where I discover that in FCP I can’t assign a unique AUX timecode (matching the one on the digi slate) for each subclip (ie each take)…
    D’oh!
So I just did the Cow search and read all about how this can’t be done in FCP, but I can’t find a suggested workaround. I can’t log and capture 20 hours of material broken up into hundreds of master clips this is not practical and would take days and days.
Surely this is a pretty standard workflow is it not?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
