  • Workflow for Sony HVR-Z1U???

    The senior editor/chief engineer here talked the company into getting a Sony HVR-Z1U with a HDV 1080I Mini DV Deck and DV Rack sotware.
    The plan was to use the DV Rack software and record directly to the laptop’s internal drive or a 250 G-Disk. Then copy the files to the G-raid that we edit from.

    We they gave it a try only to find out that Final Cut would not recognize the files becuase they were Muxed, (If I remember correctly this only is a issue when we shoot HD.) So he scrapped the whole proccess.

    I seems a waste to have the DVD rack software, the laptops and not be able to find a way to make this work.

    I figure if anyone has found a work around it would be someone on the COW.

    Thanks

    I think DV Rack is PC only and mixing PC and Mac stuff can be a real headache for anyone…

    You’re better all round capturing in FCP – the files would have the reel number etc. for proper media management and re-linking. Any other solution (even if you could get a compatible format, which I doubt) would be a compromise.

    You gotta stop him hanging around with Sony sales guys. They’ll sell you anything!

    Thanks guys; I know that mixing PC and Mac is a pain, but somethimes it is needed. (maybe not in this case, but somethimes).
    As I said earlier, it seems like a shame to waste the equiptment the was purchase for this (the DV rack, the notbook and the G-Drive 250).

    It would also be nice to be able to save the digitizing time from the mini DV, just drag and drop.

    Thanks again;
