Workflow for Dance Videography
First time poster, long time reader.
I’m going to be getting my feet wet with some solo ballroom dance videography, and would like to know if anybody has some good suggestions and or workflows that have worked in the past.
Originally, I was planning on having a two SD-camera setup, (probably just using one angle though) capturing to DV and edit the video the days to follow the event. However, I might be able to have at least 3 macbooks at the event, so I would like to explore the option of using OnLocation (which I have) and recording directly to the hard drive.
Then, creating a network wirelessly or with ethernet (ethernet preferably I’m assuming), begin the post-production work and burning of the DVD’s so we can at least get some dance performances back to the people that day. (The dances are about 2 minutes in length)Let me know what you guys think of this, or what you would do.

Statement 1 indicates a less favorable outcome of statement 2.
If you are new to this kind of shooting and distribution of product, I’d make it as simple and straight-forward a project (with several-day delivery-time promise) as I could.
The difficulties of dealing with just the (possible) dozens of orders and special requests for DVD’s
will likely take up a considerable amount of man-power (a couple of people, usually) on the day of the event(s).Fulfilling those orders and double-checking “who gets what” will be easier if you tell clients that delivery will be a few days (or longer) later.
“Day-of events” with so many participants (and relatives) can be brutal!
