    Hi all
I am editing a 16mm short film with Final Cut Pro 7.0.3. From telecining we were given a copy the rushes as two Uncompressed 10 bit Quicktime files at 25fps, Upper field first.
I wanted to edit with proxies and online to the original uncompressed media so that the colour grader has the highest quality file to work with.

Using Compressor I made two Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) files (as Log and Transfer doesn’t recognise Quicktimes).
I synced these in Final Cut making subclips and merged clips.

I tried doing a test online. But I’m not able to Batch Capture because I didn’t use Log and Transfer initially (and I my full res media isn’t on tape). I wasn’t able to manually Reconnect Media (probably due to me labelling my subclips).

I could simply work with Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) files and avoid the offline and online-ing process. But doesn’t that defeat the purpose of shooting on film?

I would appreciate hearing what workflow others have used with similar projects. Any tips greatly appreciated.
    THANK YOU!

I am guessing the files are 1920 x1080. L&T is designed to ingest various camera formats so not the right approach.

If you want to offline then reconnect to the uncompressed files you must use the same file name AND timecode. An easier way to do this is to put all the uncompressed files into a FCP timeline. Make sure each file has a reel number. Then use media manager to create a copy with the media being re compressed to ProResLT. Make sure you match the frame size.

After the edit, you can then copy>paste the timeline into a new sequence with the correct settings for uncompressed. Reconnect to the uncompressed media and send to the grader.

    Yes the files are 1920×1080.
Thanks for your advice. I’m guessing I won’t be able to make subclips from the ProRes files without having issues with the online.
Do you know if I can merge audio clips with the ProRes file? When the vision is locked I’ll export an OMF for the sound editor and reconnect the Uncompressed footage in a timeline without audio.
Thanks so much for your help.

    Use the Media Manager.
